The Roman festival of Lupercalia was held Feb. 15 in honor of Roman gods Lupercus and Faumus. The festivities included the pairing of young men and women, sometimes perfect strangers. Young Roman men randomly drew the names of Roman ladies. The two would then be paired until the following year's festivities.
